How much space do you need?

We generally need a space of 5x3 meters but are able to work with a minimum area of 4x2 meters if only limited space if available. We have performed in a variety of venues and know how to make it work and adjust to the space.

How is it best to time things?

Suggested times are as follows. We are happy to play lighter background music for when the guests arrive if required.

8pm: background music
8.30pm: cut cake, photos
9pm – 10pm first dance and band's first set
10pm-10.30pm background music
10.30pm-11.30pm band's second set
11.30-12am background music and pack down

Can I pick the bands playlist?

We prefer to play our own constructed sets designed to minimalise gaps between songs and keep the dancing going (we sometimes alter the set depending on the room, event and the space) but if there are songs you specially want us to play from our repertoire (or requested outside of or repertoire in the premium package) please let us know, we can play/sing pretty much anything! Most importantly, please make us aware of any songs/artist/bands from our repertoire (or beyond) that you DO NOT want and we will make sure not to include!

Where will you travel to?

We are based in London and the South East but are willing to travel to other areas of the UK and have played a variety of international shows.

Can I see you play live?

All of our current shows are private events so we don't play public shows. However, we do occasionally perform showcases in London which are free entry. Please get in contact to enquire if you would like to be added to the list for our next showcase event.

Will you learn our special song?

Of course, but we ask that you please take into consideration we are a five-piece band with female/male vocalist and if your song requires different instrumental arrangements than we provide (for example string sections or flute solo) we may recommend performing it in a different style. We will make it work - just let us know and we can discuss!

Is the video on your website a true reflection of the band?

Yes. The video is a true reflection of the band and we believe in giving you a real insight into the band's sound with no overdubs or studio gimmicks. We take pride in our arrangements of songs to create a big sound. Our lead vocalist has a huge vocal range as shown in the video and we are all professional, well-trained musicians that all have years and years of experience performing live in bands, also our audio recordings on our page are mostly recorded live too (including vocoder) as that is just the way we get the best sound!

Are you able to DJ in between sets?

Yes, and we are happy to take requests for specific songs for the background music playlist in advance.

Can we use your sound system for speeches?

Yes, and we can explain how to use the on-stage system after we have set up and soundchecked. We can provide a separate smaller portable Pa and Mic/stand if speeches are far away from the stage area and can even provide a battery powered amp if there is not a mains source near where the speeches are given. If a wireless microphone system is required we ask that the rental of this is arranged to be by the event planners, but we are happy set it up through our speaker system and explain how to use. If that is in any way problematic we can help with this too. If any additional equipment is required then please get in contact and we can arrange external rental in our premium package.

What equipment do you use?

We use the very best equipment, sound system and instruments including: vintage Fender Stratocaster and Martin guitars, Fender basses and Fender blues junior tweed amplification, Nord keyboards, quality PA system and lights. Yamaha DXR-15 1000watts PAT & PLI.

How long do you play for?

We play for two hours. We like to split this into 2 x 60 minute (but can do 3 x 40 minutes if preferred)

What time do you start and finish?

As standard we arrive at 6pm, take two hours to set up (maximum), playing background music from 8pm then our first set starts at 9, second at 10.30 and we finish and stop the background music at midnight. This can be altered to the specific event timings.

How long do you take to set up?

From the moment me arrive it usually takes a maximum of 2 hours to load in, set everything up and soundcheck. We allow more time than is needed in case there are any small problems.

Can I provisionally book you?

Unfortunately, we can't do that, we gig all year round and rely heavily on the dates in the calendar to be confirmations! Please check our availability to your event using the calendar on our site.

What if the band split up before my event?

For all of us: this is our profession, we are very serious and committed to it and after years of hard work and working closely together, we have no intentions of doing that! In the very unlikely event that the band had split up before your party we would make sure to find a suitable replacement band.

What will the band wear?

We always dress in very smart and professional attire for your event. For a wedding we will be dressed appropriately, and a private party we dress smart/casual.

Does the band have PAT and PLI certificates?

We carry up to date PAT certification and have PLI cover up to £5M.

How much does it cost to book the band?

Do High Lanterns have any specific requirements?

We request that a meal/soft drinks are provided for the band, and a room to get changed in.

What type/size venues are you able to play at?

We have played every type of venue, from festivals to marquees. We have even played private mansions, barns and even on cruise ships! We love playing live and as long as we logistically can - we will perform anywhere.

How loud will the band be?

We can control our levels with a very sensitive and responsive mixing desk and controllable amplification. We run everything (including the on-stage amps) through our PA system to easily control the mix and levels. As trained musicians we know to listen to each other and all play dynamically to not drain anything out or become too overpowering. We can work with limiters if necessary for your choice of venue.

What is the band power requirement?

We usually request 2 double 13 amp supplies near to the area of the stage. We prefer to run lights from one power source and audio equipment from another to create the best possible sound.

We tend to draw approximately 16 amps with all of our equipment and have only ever experienced any issues in events in marquees where the generator capacity has been too low.

Do High Lanterns offer any additional services?
